Bulgarian Clay Cooking Pots and Where to Buy Them From

I've used my clay cooking pit in a few of the recipes on the blog and wanted to talk about how its used and where to buy it from. They used to cook anything from soups, to roasts to stews, either low and slow or quicker at a higher temperature. The pots are very versatile and make meat very tender due to their shape retaining and circulating the heat and steam within to cook the food. These pots come in large sizes suitable for feeding a crowd or smaller individual portion sizes, suitable for one. Either way, they also look good when you take them to the table to eat. A word of waring- they are not to be used on the stove at all, as they are not made for that type of cooking at all.

You can get those from Bulgarian stores abroad. I am listing here the stores in the UK that I have been to that stock them on occasion. If anyone knows of any more Bulgarian stores, either in the UK or elsewhere in the world, drop me a message on my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/stelladrez_love_of_food/) and I will update the list.

A word of warning when going to any of those shops: A lot of the time, they are staffed by Bulgarians, who may not necessarily have the best English and may sometimes come across as being rude. Do not take this personally, as Bulgarian culture and its people, is very straightforward and does not use words like "please" and "thank you" as often as people in the UK do. If they do say please and thank you, its because its been earned. Being overly polite, without any obvious reason, can be perceived as double faced.
